Biography

Sarah first came to people's attention in the folk clubs of South Yorkshire in the mid 1990's playing a mixture of covers and her own songs. She dropped the covers, moved to Birmingham and formed a duo with Lorna Bryant which quickly became one of the Midland's premier acts. They released a CD entitled Desire which featured twelve of Sarah's songs in June 1998 to much critical acclaim. Ric Saunders of Fairport Convention heard it and liked the music so much that he turned up at one of their gigs and played fiddle with them!

Sarah has since released two further albums; Freedom with her band TALA and First Person Plural. Her songwriting and guitar work often attract comments as you'll see below.

Sarah is available as a solo artist or with her long standing musical partner Duncan Gibbs. Whichever way you have her, you are sure of an evening of top class songs, fine guitar playing and fun which will leave your audience wanting more.

A message from Sarah

Thank you very much for visiting the web site. It's good to have you here.

It has been an interesting few years!

The late 1990s were terrific from a musical point of view. 'Lorna Bryant and Sarah Jones' played a load of gigs and festivals and the album Desire just walked off our merchandising table wherever we played. It was such an energising time and we met so many fabulous people at the gigs. Many of you are still in touch today.

For the Freedom album we were joined by a succession of amazing vocalists and we decided to call the band line up 'TALA'. There was Yasmin, there was Cecilia Le Poer Power and there was Lisa Watt - superb singers all.

There have been national solo and duo tours and a 'TALA' tour where we were blessed with the vocal talents and charm of Toni Wood; one of Australia's finest contemporary singers. There has been a new album First Person Plural, and appearances on BBC TVs Heaven and Earth Show and Radio 4s Woman's Hour amongst others.

Throughout it all there has been the simply wonderful Duncan Gibbs; master of the keyboard, guru of the bass, prince of the Appalachian dulcimer and now king of the recording process. In a word a genius.

Over the last few years I have been training for ordained ministry in the Church of England and I am now a Church of England Priest in rural Herefordshire! Real life is stranger than fiction.

The autumn 2008 gigs were back in solo format and we got a fabulous reception from some lovely venues. We are now looking forward to the 2009 shows.

How exciting to be back. You'll find the latest details on the NEWS page and hopefully some interesting material elsewhere on the site. Do let us know!

And how good it would be to see you soon!

Love and best wishes,
Sarah x
